‘It’s another big game’ – Norwich star’s verdict ahead of Newcastle United clash

Norwich City star Ben Godfrey has shrugged off his side’s 4-1 hammering at Liverpool to switch the focus straight on to Newcastle United.

The York-born 21-year-old is fired up for the clash with the Magpies and after fighting his way through the ranks with York City.

Godfrey has actually tasted victory against Newcastle before as part of a shock win for the Minstermen when Steve McClaren’s United were humbled at Bootham Crescent.

Looking ahead to Newcastle, Godfrey said: “It’s another big game and that’s why this league is so good.

“You’ve got another game coming soon and you’ve got to compete.

“Every team is good in this league.

“We’re looking forward to it, Liverpool has gone and we’ll talk about it but then that’s it.

“We’ll look ahead.”

Godfrey and Norwich endured a steep learning curve against Liverpool at Anfield.

But the midfielder said: “Some of the goals we conceded were unlucky.

“You look at the second-half and we created chances, we created chances for the whole game to be fair.

“At the top level, they’ll take their chances. They’re one of the best teams in the world for a reason. We can’t be too disheartened by it.

“Experiences like this are invaluable. You can take so much from them, positive and negatives. It will do us the world of good and we just can’t get too down about it.

“We can only learn and it will make us stronger.”
